University student Wang Hailing is raped by best friend Zhang Yumei's boyfriend Liu Duogui, and she sues him despite being criticised by her relatives for bringing the issue to public attention. Unfortunately Yumei betrays Hailing and makes a false witness statement, and Duogui is set free. Hailing finds herself pregnant, and leaves her hometown in shame.
